30-day returns, buyer pays return shippingLong live film! Up for purchase: a Canon Auto Zoom 518 Super 8 movie/cine camera in excellent condition! It is in perfect working order - all features are functional. Lens glass is very clean! It's in great condition - no scratches, mold, fungus, or haze. Features the legendary Canon C-8 zoom system = f1.8 9.5-47.5mm zoom lens (5x zoom). Drive motor/shutter operates smoothly and steadily. No variance in run speed. Both 18fps (super-8 standard) and Slow-Motion (~ 40 fps for 1/2 speed) work as they should. Automatic exposure works well, as does manual exposure! VERY IMPORTANT: the 518 utilizes 4-pin ASA/ISO notching, so it will appropriately adjust exposure in AUTO mode for the following super-8 ISO/speed films: Tungsten: 25, 40, 64, 100, 160, 250 Daylight: 16, 25, 40, 64, 100, 160 In easier to understand terms, it WILL PROPERLY EXPOSE modern film stocks! Many cheaper/base consumer-grade super-8 cameras were only designed to properly expose 40/160 speed films in automatic mode. The Canon 518 will properly expose all the previously mentioned ASA/speed stocks when in AUTO mode (no manual metering necessary). Of course, you can always use manual mode to override auto exposure and select f-stop if you are using a handheld meter and want more precise exposure based on specific light readings of your selected subject (how pros measure light and set up cameras for proper exposure in productions). That said, most people shooting super-8 use AUTO exposure because the cameras are so small and portable, and it's a lot easier/faster to just let the camera handle the exposure. Plus that's the aesthetic which is often desired in the end with the super-8 format. VF (viewfinder) is clean and clear, and provides a nice display of f-stop! Very useful whether you are in automatic or manual exposure modes. NO corrosion on battery contacts! They are clean. Camera uses 4 AA batteries and 2 button cell (PX 625 work fine) for the light meter. All these batteries are very easy to find/source. I'll include new batteries with the camera! NOTE: These Auto Zoom 518 cameras with (fixed grip) are a significant upgrade over the base Canon 518 (with foldable handle). Those basic models do not have higher frame-rate option (slow-motion), nor to they have the manual option to control exposure. The 518 for sale in this listing is the more capable of the two. AUCTION INCLUDES: 1. Canon Auto Zoom 518 Super 8 movie camera (Made in Japan, Serial # ...294) 2. NEW batteries included (4x AA batteries for drive motors; 2x PX 625 button cell batteries for meter - I'll install before shipping the camera) 3. A film-related surprise! (it could be an accessory for this camera or something else entirely - either way, a film-related bonus for you...) NOTE: The original owners manual can be found online in PDF format for free! I'll post with a Buy it Now of $369.00 These are good cameras for which 100% functional models are in high demand. Or, if buying from Canada or other countries that I ship to, please refer to eBay's Global Shipping program. I have been on eBay since 2000 and have 100% feedback rating, so bid with confidence! Please see all my seller feedback - my customers are very satisfied with the camera and purchasing experience. I'm in the U.S. (west of Chicago). I was a film student at Columbia a couple of decades ago and, as I stated earlier, film is still a hobby of mine. Am I THE authority/expert about super-8 and/or 16mm? Maybe, maybe not, but I have used quite a few of these cameras, and have a good working knowledge. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I will respond ASAP. That said, there is no warranty, express or implied. What I DO guarantee is that camera will arrive in condition as described in auction. Beyond that, the camera may function for 8 months, 5 years or 4 more decades (I would think years, as long as it is well cared for). I would never sell a camera that I would not want to receive myself! Eventually, I will be selling some non-functional "parts/project" cameras, but those will be explicitly labelled as such. If I say a camera is in great condition and fully functional, it is. And this Canon Auto Zoom 518 is in fantastic condition and 100% working order... just add film! Thanks for your interest! p.s. In case you haven't picked up on it, I really, really enjoy shooting on film! Super-8, 16mm, and 35mm still photography... It's a hobby and passion. I shoot family, travel, and sports, as well as dabble in small productions and have contributed to a few weddings. Part of the love of filmmaking (with FILM) is not just the process, but the equipment. Many of these cameras are engineering art - and it's a much more tactile experience than digital. And, of course, you create an aesthetically unique product by shooting on film. I have used, at one point or another, all the equipment that I have for sale. It is a way to help support my hobby and experience all kinds of vintage cameras. So... purchase with confidence. Know that whether you are buying for yourself, or for someone else, you will get a camera that is just as described, working, and ready to roll film! And if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask! |
